How should I explain why Vmc decreases as altitude increases to a multi-engine student?

Vmc is set with the critical engine's rudder authority versus thrust asymmetry. With altitude, the operating engine makes less power, so the asymmetric thrust drops and the rudder can hold direction at a lower speed — published Vmc is fixed at SEA LEVEL. Teach the relationship, not just the number — verify against your CFI.
